A long love story

All began in 1992, when as a little girl, I asked, like a lot of little girls, a pet to my parents. They agreed and offered me Hermeline des Cairléos de Teckland, a very cute and cuddly cairn terrier puppy.

I was already very passionated by dogs, and this purebred Cairn terrier made on me a big interest for cynophily. I read all books and sources I was able to find about dogs. It gave me the idea to make a litter on Hermeline. My parents, interested by money, agreed... But I should care myself of the puppies.

Then in 1996, my first dog litter has been born. Of course I have done many errors at this time, and this responsibility teached me patience and humility. Anyway, I have been able to care of the puppies, to raise them, and to lead them to hunting work and to beauty shows. It gave me a strong breeder vocation.

In 2001, after five years to have bred and shown my cairns, I have had to move to the city. It was terrible for my dogs, because I was not allowed to keep with me more than one dog. Then I took with me my beloved “mama” Hermeline, and had to let my other dogs be kept by my mother in the country.

And then the drama happened. I have not been authorized to see my babies in the country, because my mother, who suffered of a mental disease, was dangerous. In 2003, I lost my Hermeline from a mycotoxicosis present in her kibble. Worse again : my other cairns have been abused at my mother’s home. The cairn girl has been let die because of a care default in 2004, and the cairn boy in 2009. I learnt the girl’s death too late. About the boy, I tried to help him but it was too late, he was too ill.

In 2004, traumatized by my two girls’ death, I decided to get a new dog, but at this time I didn’t have the project to breed again. I wanted just a faithful companion. Then I made researches on dog breeds which could be good for me, and coincidence, I found it in a cousin of the cairn : the Skye terrier. A strange cousin anyway, with absolutely not the same character than my former dogs. Very excited, I told myself I would be happy to participate to some shows with my future Skye. And in April 2005, seeking for a show Skye terrier boy, I saw the photo of the puppy of my dreams. I could only be totally in love.

One month later, Ceridwen’s Cordial Medoc, called Candy, arrived in my arms. It was so extraordinary I had even not realized completely the journey I have begun. It was just a miracle. Candy is an extraordinary boy, so joyful, so faithful, so loving. Everyday, he lightens my life. Only a Skye terrier's owner is able to know that infinite love which his best companion's eyes show.

Quickly, the breeder’s dream I have made before came back to surface, because Candy is carrier of a very rare and ancient color, fawn, and because the Skye terrier breed is directly menaced of extinction. It makes him precious for breeding programs. I see again the vision of playful puppies in my dreams.

It was decided : I will have another Skye terrier and realize my dream, build my kennel, to help to save the breed from disappearing. I have to thank my best breeder friends, who will recognize themselves, for their help and unconditional support.
